Uniform
Children are expected to wear uniform. This consists of a royal blue sweater, jersey, cardigan or fleece, dark skirt or trousers, and a white or blue shirt or t-shirt. In summer, girls can wear blue and white checked summer dresses. Suitable shoes should be worn and jewelery is not allowed (except studs for pierced ears). School uniform and PE kit is for sale at the school.
We urge all parents to check that each item of school clothing is labelled with your child's name. On a daily basis we find children's clothing not labelled and therefore find it hard, sometimes impossible, to return to the rightful owner.
School uniform can be purchased from Corinne in the morning or after school has finished.
Absence
If you child is absent you can leave a very quick message on the answer phone. This helps to keep our registers upto date and avoids unauthorised absence. Please avoid taking holidays in term time as this can seriously disrupt your child’s education. Absences and punctuality is closely monitored by the Learning Mentor and Education Welfare Officer, and inquiries are made if a persistent problem occurs.

Governor’s Admissions Policies
St John of Jerusalem CoE Primary School, in the parish of South Hackney (Diocese of London) will admit each year the following numbers of children:
i) A total of 26 full-time children in the Nursery class.
ii) A total of 30 children in the Reception class. There will be two intakes per year dependent on
the date of birth as follows:
September intake – those who are 5 years old between 1st September – 28/29th February
January intake – those who are 5 between 1st March – 31st August
The admission numbers and dates of admission were agreed in consultation with the Local Authority. All children who attend the nursery will be required to complete an application form as there is no automatic transfer from nursery to reception.
Admission criteria for oversubscribed classes
In the event that the school is oversubscribed in any one year group, the Governor’s Admissions Committee will apply the following criteria in order of priority to reach a decision about a child’s admission to the school:
1) Looked after children.
2) Children whose Parent/s* or Carer/s*, are regular worshippers (at least once every three weeks, for one year) at St John of Jerusalem Church.
3) Children who have “Siblings” attending St John of Jerusalem CoE Primary School, and will continue to do so at the time of attendance (“Siblings” refers to brother or sister, half brother or sister, adopted brother or sister, step brother or sister, or the child or the parent/s* or carer/s* partner where the child for whom the school place is sought is living in the same family unit at the same address as that sibling).
4) Children who are already in the Nursery at St John of Jerusalem CoE Primary School.
5) Children whose Parent/s* or Carer/s* are regular worshippers (at least once every three weeks, for one year) at a nearby Anglican church, and for whom this is their nearest
church school.
6) Children whose Parent/s* or Carer/s* are regular worshippers (at least once every three weeks, for one year) at a nearby Christian church, and for whom this is their nearest church school.
7) Children whose Parent/s* or Carer/s* are regular worshippers (at least once every three weeks, for one year) of other faiths/beliefs, and for whom this is their nearest church school.
8) Children who live nearest to the main entrance of the school (measured by the shortest walking distance**).
St John of Jerusalem CoE Primary School
Governor’s Admissions Policies (cont’d)
NOTE: 1) In the event of oversubscription in all above criteria, the shortest walking **“Distance” from the school will determine the child’s admission. **“Distance” will be measured in a straight line by the shortest walking route from the front door of the child’s home address (including flats) to the main entrance of the school, [using the Local Authority’s computerised measuring system], [with those living closer to the school receiving the higher priority].
2) * “Parent/s or Carer/s” is any person who has parental responsibility for, or is the legal guardian of the child. Where admission arrangements refer to “parents’ attendance at church” it is sufficient for just one parent to attend.
3) The school maintains a waiting list and children are ranked on the list in accordance with the school’s oversubscription criteria. The list is maintained by the Local Authority for one term after which it will be maintained by the School. We will contact you on a regular basis to enquire whether you want your child to remain on the waiting list.
4) Any child who attends a place of worship will only be considered if the minister of religion has confirmed regular worship on the attached form. Should this form not be received, this will reduce the possibility of the child’s admission being accepted.
5) If you are making your Admissions Application in relation to criteria points 2), 6), 7), or 8), please ensure you provide the Supplementary Information Form as “Confirmation of Church/Other Faith Membership”; duly signed by your Vicar, Pastor or Religious Leader.
