Academic Results

At St John of Jerusalem we have an excellent record in helping children to reach their full academic potential.

In 2006, due to our SATs results, we were commended as one of the top fifty schools in the country for "adding value". This is because our children had made such good progress by the time they reached Year 6.

We follow the National Literacy Strategy and the National Numeracy Strategy, as well as the National Curriculum. In the Foundation Stage (Nursery and Reception), we follow the Foundation Stage Curriculum, to build the important skills that children will need further up the school. In Key Stage 1 and the Foundation Stage we aim to use a topic based approach, which we find helps to capture the imagination of our younger pupils. We regularly review the curriculum to ensure it is relevant to our children. One of our strengths is in tracking the progress of all our pupils closely.

Specialist teachers provide lessons in French, sport and music to all pupils.

Ofsted has said:

Pupils receive good care, guidance and support,
not least in meeting challenging academic targets.

Another strength is that teachers have high expectations of their pupils and what they can achieve.
