Our Governance at St John of Jerusalem Primary School

The task of the Governing Body of St John of Jerusalem Church of England Primary School is to ensure that every child in the school gets the best possible education.

We do this by concentrating on three core functions:

1. Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction.

2. Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the performance management of staff.

3. Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent.

Our school is a 'Voluntary Aided' school which means that the Governing Body also acts as the employer of the staff and is responsible for school admissions.

The Foundation Governors of the school have a specific role in preserving and developing the Christian ethos of the school.

The maximum number of governors on the Governing Body has been set at twelve:

Two Parent Governors Uche Duru & Nana Akindele
One Local Authority Governor Vacancy

Alister Bould, Foundation PCC Governor & Chair of Governors

I believe that all children should be given the opportunity to fulfil their potential. In a previous job as a lawyer at a city firm I established a successful literacy and numeracy mentoring scheme at the school. I have also worked for charities that build links between schools and the world of work. I have served as a governor at a secondary school in Leeds and I have over 20 years experience of operating in a commercial environment. In my spare time, I try to keep fit and I am a qualified skydiver and pilot.

The Revd Andrew Wilson, ex-officio Foundation Governor, Vice Chair

I am the Rector of St John of Jerusalem Church. I am married to Estelle and we have two children, both of whom attended St John of Jerusalem Primary School. I have worked in East London in different parishes since 1994. First of all in Forest Gate in Newham. Then in Poplar in Tower Hamlets (where I was Vice Chair of Governors at Culloden Primary School). I moved to South Hackney in January 2009. My first degree was in History, I then did a Theology degree and later a Master's degree, also in Theology. I am passionate about providing the best possible educational opportunities for all the children of our school.

Grace Blaiklock, 'London Diocesan Board for Schools' Foundation Governor and Chair of the Standards, Teaching & Learning Committee

I am a civil servant with experience working at the Department for Education and HM Treasury. Before this I worked as an auditor and financial consultant, where I qualified as a Chartered Accountant. This is my first school governorship and I am passionate about ensuring that every child receives an excellent education. In my spare time I enjoy travelling, reading and baking bread.

Niul Dillon Hatcher, 'London Diocesan Board for Schools' Foundation Governor

I have lived in the area since 1987. I have three children, two at (the same) university and a third nearly there.  I am a lawyer and have been a primary school governor in Hackney for about 15 years, joining St John’s in 2013.  Family, music, books, cycles and community involvement fill my spare time.

Nana Akindele, Parent Governor

My child has been attending this school since 2017. I am currently working as a teacher in East London and I have over 12 years’ experience in education. I have also volunteered for a number of charities over the years including Childline, Hackney Quest and Kith & Kids. I was a former pupil at the school and so I am delighted to be able to give back to the school that contributed so positively to my education.

Uche Duru, Parent Governor

I have lived in Hackney on and off for the last 18 years, I am married and have three children two of whom currently attend St John of Jerusalem CofE school. I studied Business Management and IT, however currently I work for London Underground as a Duty Manager.

My aim is to bring my experience and background to support and bolster the extraordinary work that the Governors currently do and in the process learn and develop myself. I am a huge Chelsea Football Club fan as well as a deep lover of soul, R&B and Afro-beat music, I also love to sing.
